Deserving Scholars

2023 Deserving Scholar Kelvin Weston

My name is Kelvin Weston and I am 16 years of age. I am currently a junior at Glades Central Community High School. I am fortunate to say that I grew up in a two-parent household Even though my family has experienced some rough times, we were still better off than many others. My plan after high school is to attend Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) and my plan is to graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a Program Major in Facilities Management.

I have always found interest in meeting new people so it was only natural that I enjoy networking with other people. My career goal was particularly influenced by a networking opportunity with a gentleman who regularly came to our school to speak to us young men about entrepreneurship. He would explain to us why it was important to make investments and he emphasized the importance of investing in ourselves and our dreams. After every meeting, this gentleman would give us something to take with us such as snacks, money, posters and books. These meetings ignited a fire in me to pursue my goal of helping my family to become financially stable and avoid having to go going through tough times ever again. So, my pursuit of a career in Business was super easy to me. It is imperative that I go to college to further my education and thanks to this scholarship, I am one step closer!

I am glad to receive this scholarship, which will have a positive influence on my education by helping me to cover the cost for PSAT, SAT, and ACT tests, and to cover the cost of materials/courses and tutoring for any of the tests. As a hardworking student I am proud and committed to take part in this opportunity that this scholarship provides.

2023 Deserving Scholar Arlexus Kelley Dume

My name is Arlexus Kelley Dume and I am currently a 10th grade student attending Deerfield Beach High School. I was born in the Dominican Republic and Spanish is my first language. I currently live with my mom and siblings, and it can be very draining for my mom to think about the financial hardships she will face when it comes to putting us through college. I want nothing more than to make my mom proud and I know I will continue to receive even more scholarships so that my family and I will not need to worry about it.

I plan to use the Deserving Scholars Award to ensure that I receive the proper help and preparation for the SAT and ACT. This will help me get a high score so that I can get more academic related scholarships. I hope to be able to give back to my community and Boys and Girls Clubs in the future so that I can also have a positive impact on others.”
